Easy Southern Cooking/ Home
Welcome to Easy Southern Cooking
I am in the process of rebuilding the site. I am a better cook than web designer and a lot of the code is frustrating to me. I hope that you will be patient, should you encounter a broken link, I am working on them even as you read this. Hopefully, I have found most of them.

Traditional Southern Biscuit
3 cups self-rising flour, plus some to flour the board
½ cup shortening or lard
1 cup milk
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Sift the flour into a medium bowl.
- Add the shortening to the flour in bits and cut into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Form a well in the center of the flour and add the milk into the well.
- Stir the milk into the flour with a fork, just until mixed.
- Turn out onto a floured board, counter top, or piece of parchment paper. Knead gently 2 or 3 times and roll or pat to a ½ inch thickness.
- Cut into 2 inch rounds with a biscuit cutter. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot.
Use the right ingredients and don’t over-mix. Follow these tips for tender biscuits every time. Enjoy
